Blythe

In 1882, Thomas Blythe, had a vision of creating an "Empire on the Colorado River". He hired George Irish to help manage his project of land development and colonization. Blythe died before he could see his dream become a reality. When the great depression occurred, Blythe was on the brink of becoming a ghost town. Edwin F. Williams, came to the towns rescue and through him this town has become one of the fastest growing towns in California. In 1916 the City of Blythe was finally incorporated.

Blythe is known for Blythe House which was started in 2002 to give young and old access to a recreational facility unsurpassed by any other. It's facilities are already renown throughout the world for it's hospitality and friendship. Blythe is also known for its "Intaglios" an Italian word meaning engraving art process. Intaglios are rare finds in the world. The Intaglios here in Blythe were created by Indians around 450 to 2000 years ago. These Intaglios are located on two mesas 15 miles north of the city. They consist of six distinct figures, one of a human figure that measures 165 feet from head to toe.

Although Blythe's base of economy is agriculture, it has rapidly been expanding its economy base. In the past ten years the population and economy growth has tripled. The city offers many business opportunities and with the easy access to the railroad, highway, and airports, the cities economy will continue to grow stronger.
